Respect, Responsibility, Results

Educational Leadership:
I currently serve as the Deputy of Public Instruction for the Building Educational Success Together (BEST) branch of the California Department of Education (CDE). As Deputy Superintendent of the BEST branch, I work with directors who oversee divisions that  support curriculum frameworks and instructional resources, multilingual support division, professional learning and support, and our state special schools.

Previously, I have been a school board trustee, Director of the Office of African American Student Achievement, a middle school principal, and high school assistant principal. At all levels, I used data to support instruction, decisions, and staff members in an effort to increase student achievement.

Policy Maker:
I am a team player, and served as Trustee on the Hayward Unified School District Board of Education for eight school years. As a part of the team of trustees, I contributed to sound policy that enabled the school district to move from negative budget certification to a positive budget certification. We created policies and established procedures that lead to an increase in academic achievement of all students. During my tenure on the Board, I served as the Board's President and Vice President. I was also elected to serve as a Delegate Member to the California School Boards Association (CSBA), a state wide position representing Hayward and the region.
