What I Stand For
As school board member, I will move the district forward with increased test scores and attendance. I have been a teacher for more than 6 years in Hayward. I will:
- Work to create safe schools.
- Make decreasing truancy a priority.
- Prepare students for college or career.
- Support a fiscally responsible budget.
- Support new basics for the 21st century.
Safe Schools
Schools need to be safe. Safety will allow our students to learn freely, without obstruction. Safety will also allow our teachers to teach without obstruction and hindrance to their job.
We need to call for greater safety in all of our schools and provide the avenue to learning with out students and staff having to worry about their security.

Equity for AllEducation is a right that we all have as residents of Hayward. We need to understand that equity does not mean equal. Equity is something that needs to be achieved in our schools for the success of our students. We need to understand an individual's strengths and background to understand what their needs are and how to enable them to become successful. We have to understand that all students do not learn the same way. As educators, we need to understand that we too need to learn about the students we service. Just because we are teachers, we have not "arrived" and cannot grow.
Race, class, culture, gender, income, gender, and sexual identity should no longer be good predictors on academic success or failure. All students should produce high quality work and achieve at high levels. This is what Hayward can do. This is what Hayward will be. |
Fiscally Responsible Budget with Schools FirstA fiscally responsible budget is very important to the success of a school and for the success of the students. A responsible budget will have all aspects of it examined and not just look at one source: the classroom.
A fiscally responsible budget will be successful when students are in the forefront when making fiscal decisions. It is when students are not the focal point, that budget has been compromised and is not the best it can be for the student's sake. |
Clear, Effective CommunicationMany problems arise because of communication "break-downs." We also have to understand that communication techniques have changed, and technology has evolved therefore we need to grow in the ways we communicate. We need communicate positively, and understand that we may disagree... but we need to disagree respectfully.
Clear, effective, concise communication is what is needed to inform and educate all participants in the learning community. HUSD, Board of Trustees, and the Community: the groups that need to communicate with each other. Clear communication with these groups, and from each of these groups, is how a positive beneficial relationship will work to support our students. |
Creating GoalsAs trustee, creating goals is paramount. I will not only create goals and policy, but also serve as the check-and-balance to the superintendent and the school district to ensure they are acting in the best interest of the community.
As members of the school community; students, teachers, parents, administrators, district staff, school board, and community members, we have to understand the common goal we are working for. We need to pull together, work on common ground, toward achieving a shared vision of success for our students which will give us success for our community. |
