Letter to the Community
November 14, 2010
As a newly elected Trustee to the Hayward Unified School District (HUSD) Board of Education, I would like to share with you my philosophy. That philosophy is founded on the belief that our public school system can provide educational opportunities for all.
Therefore, it is incumbent upon the district to provide a great education for all those it serves. Part of that service includes preparing students for college, a career, and distributive education by providing choices the students will be able to choose the path for which they are best suited.
The current statewide fiscal crisis presents our district with significant challenges. A concerted effort community effort—including businesses, the City of Hayward, the County of Alameda, teachers, students, parents, district personnel, and the Board of Education—can find solutions to the substantial problems we are facing while keeping the emphasis on students.
My new charge is not one that is taken lightly. The role of HUSD’s trustees is to provide leadership that is prominent reliable and professional. That is what HUSD members expect and deserve. How do we do this? By being progressive in our thinking, providing successful strategies and incorporating ideas from the entire HUSD.
I am looking forward to working with each of you in order to create a better HUSD. Please feel free to contact me at william@williammcgee.com.
